It is with regret and sadness that we announce the closing of The Wood Coop Galleries
Dear Artisan,
It is with regret and sadness that I must inform you that The Wood Co-op Gallery is closing down forever, and the association that was the driving force behind the Gallery is dissolving as well.
The Wood Co-op Gallery has been a fixture on Granville Island for 10 years, but last years’ snow collapse was the catalyst of its demise. Although the board and staff put in Herculean effort over the last year to try and find a solution to losing our prime space on Granville Island, we were thwarted by a combination of a global recession, an extended delay in securing a large enough space to showcase furniture, and an expensive renovation. In the end, all of the effort was simply not enough.
Both the small Gallery in the Net Loft on Granville Island and the larger space on 6th avenue have already been shuttered. All of the stock has been returned to the artisans.
On April 17th we will be having a celebration of the ten great years of the gallery. If you are interested please email me at duanelaird@yahoo.com and I will provide you with details of time and location as they become available.
And lastly, on behalf of Peter Moonen and the Board of Directors, Nisha Rocamora and the staff at the Gallery, and myself, thank you for your participation in the Gallery and the great work that you have produced and sold through the stores. In an era when Ikea is lauded as the pinnacle of design it was an honour to be associated with the men and women in B.C. that have dedicated their lives to crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind, testaments to the human imagination. It has been a pleasure working with you.
