The Gallery Our most prominent initiative yet is the operation of a retail establishment in Vancouver, B.C., that conveys an image of upscale wooden arts and crafts and allows customers and visitors to appreciate fine woodworking and craftsmanship in B.C. The retail outlet sells fine wood-based home furniture and furnishings as well as home accents, giftware and accessories. We provide our customers and clients with a quality retail environment that includes personal service and unique products that are designed, constructed and juried to the highest standards of craftsmanship. This includes our ability to design and customize furniture specifically to the individual needs and preferences of our customers. Products are drawn from juried membership of various woodworking associations around B.C. that belong to The Wood Co-op. Please see www.woodco-op.com for more information. 1. Originality of design (work from patterns, and designs from books are not accepted) 2. Quality of craftsmanship (good design, technical competency and good presentation 3. Overall suitability and marketability to the gallery (i.e. contemporary styles and uniqueness of design)
The Wood Co-op Jurying Committee is comprised of two shop staff members, a member of the Co-op board of directors, and an accomplished, independent design expert and woodworker. Occasionally, certain craftspeople may be invited to the jury for their expertise in a particular medium. For jurying purposes, please provide the following along with your completed application form to the gallery: 1. Slides or photos of your work with work and images being of professional quality 2. Woodworker or Artisan statement, a brief description of the making of your work, a Woodworker statement and a separate product price listing (with retail prices, i.e. the price the customers would get to see in our shop). 3. One exemplary piece or section/part of your work can accompany the submission if it fits in a box not larger than 2x2x3 feet. Please pack safely and deliver in a labelled box. Return shipping instructions and costs (i.e. prepaid or collect return arrangements) should also be supplied. Please make sure that you have a pre-arranged appointment for delivery or pick-up of work. Jurying is conducted twice a year, with submission deadlines of March 15th and September 15th. For more information about the jurying process, dates and forms, please contact the member representative of your Co-op member organization or the Co-op Administration Office. Forms are also available through this site under the Forms and Downloads tab.
